This Privacy Policy explains how the GitHub Widget mobile application (the “App”) handles information. The App is developed and maintained by Mohsin Adam (the “Developer”, “we”, “us”). By installing or using the App, you agree to this Policy.
The App is an independent, third-party home-screen widget that displays a GitHub user's public contribution graph, statistics, streaks, followers and trending repositories. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by GitHub, Inc. or Microsoft Corporation. “GitHub” and the GitHub logo are trademarks of their respective owners.
We have designed the App to work without an account on our side. We do not operate any backend server, and we never receive a copy of your data. The App handles the following:
| Data | Why | Where it lives | Shared with us? |
|---|---|---|---|
| GitHub username you enter | To fetch and display the corresponding public contribution data | On your device (app settings) | No |
| App settings (motto text, widget colors, refresh interval, display options, selected language/feed) | To remember how you configured your widgets | On your device (app settings) | No |
| Cached GitHub content (contribution counts, avatar image, follower counts, trending repositories / events) | To render widgets quickly and reduce network use | On your device (local cache) | No |
| GitHub login session (optional — only if you sign in) | To include contributions from your private repositories | On your device, in the system WebView's cookie storage | No |
We do not collect your name, email address, location, contacts, device identifiers, advertising ID, or any analytics or usage telemetry.
To function, the App connects directly from your device to GitHub. No data passes through any server controlled by the Developer. The App may contact:
github.com — public contribution graph, trending repositories, and (only if you sign in) the GitHub login page;api.github.com — public profile information and received events for the username you provide;avatars.githubusercontent.com — the profile picture image.Any information you exchange with GitHub is governed by GitHub's own privacy policy: GitHub Privacy Statement. We do not sell or share your information with any other third party.
Signing in is optional and is only needed to display contributions from private repositories. Sign-in happens on GitHub's own web page, shown inside the App. The App does not see, store, or transmit your GitHub password. After a successful login, the resulting session cookie is kept by the device's WebView so the App can request your data from GitHub on your behalf. You can sign out at any time, which clears that session.
All data described above is stored locally on your device. We do not retain any of it because we never receive it. You are in full control:
The App contains no advertising, no analytics, and no third-party tracking SDKs.
The App is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Network communication with GitHub uses HTTPS. Because data stays on your device, its security also depends on your device's own protections (screen lock, OS updates, encryption).
Since we do not hold any of your personal data, requests to access, correct, or delete data are satisfied entirely on your device using the controls in Section 6. If you have questions about your rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA, contact us using the details below.
We may update this Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, within the App listing. Continued use of the App after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.
